The Thinking Us: Winter Retreat Design brought GRIST’s academic community together to pause and reflect on antiracist work and research.
On February 6-8, at Downing College, GRIST hosted the Thinking US: Winter Retreat Design for its community of academics, activists, and changemakers.
The Winter Retreat served as a space for experimentation, where GRIST’s community tried to pause and experience stillness and the insights that come with it. Further on, the participants reflected on the challenges of collaborative work.
For two and a half days, facilitators in somatic abolitionism (Uma Mishra), movement principles for pausing, relating and collaborating (Bim Malcomson) and the emotional dimension of oppressions and community building (Mai Mai Lam and Mónica Moreno Figueroa) created a unique container for finding new solutions and ways of imagining the world without racism and oppressions.
The retreat was a closed event held as a trial of an experimental format. The format will be integrated into a wider Actionable Learning & Collaboration Residency programme in the future.
